ABOUT ME :iconlipplz:

Writter & Journalist of profession.

Author of a serie of a novels called "Otaku trilogy" about manga, anime, cosplay & video games,

I consider me, however, an artist in progress; someone who seeking my path can not be one, but one which achieves the harmony of all facets of art that interest me. I want to be a creative model and an intriguing photographer with different type of cameras.

But my greatest passions are cosplay and pin-up art, and I aspire to display that both are beyond of simply pretty or funny images...that pin-up is not only an light enterteinment for men, and cosplay could be an art for sensitive adults...but I know that I have a long way to get it.

ENGLISH

"When I was a little child –says portuguese photographer Jose Calheros :iconjacac: - I started taking pictures, and people told me that they were different, that I was able to catch feelings ... and since then I have not stopped.

José Calheros, architect by profession, photographer by vocation, was born on September 23 in Lisbon and is a photographer with lots of experience. Both I consider valid point that lives, eats and sleeps with his camera, because even in dreams may appear an image that seduces his fine instinct.

"My first camera was a little Kodak, I used a couple of times-continues Jose, nostalgic by childhood that was touched by the magic-There was no money to buy the film, not as easy as now. My first photo, I remember well, was made to a couple of friends of my same age. I keep it still and I think that is a sweet picture ... dramatic. So I see it. I think that I in could capture the pure meaning of true friendship.

Although Calheros has taken to photographing landscapes and spontaneous-he called to himself "street photographer"-there is "something" in each of the images that would suggest that these images were put there, waiting for him. Whether you are couples kissing in a quiet corner, watching passersby or window ads with rapt expression or thinking about something that has nothing to do with what they see, children ready to smile or weary pilgrims. Who appreciated those first photos of Calheros not exaggerated: his photos are different, they have more soul ... projected photographer himself the subject of interest.

Calheros has traveled the entire European continent and some other countries, armed with her soul, namely, cameras, a Nikon D800 with 14/24 (2.8) 24/70 (2.8) and 70/200 (2, 8) and a small Fujifilm X10 he won in a photo contest organized by a French magazine.

Photos with Fujifilm:

"Spain, France, UK, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Switzerland, Turkey, Morocco, Angola and the U.S. ... The Capitals Europe are very interesting in terms of street photography, and I could not name just one above the other. If we talk about a country that has captivated me in photographic terms, that would be Iceland

"I like walking in the cities and feel the streets and people, its smells, its lights, its colors ... their imaginary stories ... and I try to catch them in my photos. I like to tell stories, and my way of telling them is through photos.

"There are people who do not like to be photographed, they turn the other way, but are the least. I particularly remember to a girl who posed for me right away. Then she asked me if I worked in a magazine and if I planned to put her on the cover (laughs).

"The faces of the people call my attention -he continues-, is not only beauty, but the expressions. What those expressions say to me. I see beauty, sadness, admiration, and so on. There are all kinds of amazing faces in the streets and so many feelings ... and some faces are a catalog of feelings.

Most of the photographs of Joseph are in black and white, but the absence of color, if any, is relative ... How does Joseph Calheros us see absent colors?

"I think in black and white is more accurate to catch feelings. You have to play with the light to get more or less contrast and if the photo is good, it is much more appealing to me. The color distracts a little, can be very leading.

This artist does not like to retouch his personal photographs: "I just performed some adjustments. I do not like to retouch, I think that should retain the essence of what drove me to get them. I make split-second composition in my mind as my fingers fit what I want and I almost always only a photo of the subject, it is that time. A second later it's not the same. I speak, of course, my personal work, because if I'm working for a magazine or advertising I retouched to make them perfect and achieve the interests of my clients.

Regarding this aspect, José Calheros also has much to say:

"Generally a publication hire me and I do all the work. I call modeling agency with which they normally work and what kind of model indicated require. Then I do a little interview with the model and make two or three pictures to see how they react to me. During the photo shoots I'm always talking to the models, trying to feel comfortable before asking expressions. 1, 2, 3 expression, shoot!, 1,2,3, expression shoot! ... And I can tell they enjoy working with me even though I am very picky because I have too much patience and being in the studio is like home.

Despite the crisis currently attacking his country, Joseph Calheros is about to publish his first book of photography titled  "Advertising", which shows the connection between advertising and pedestrian, the most visited theme in your photos:

"I'm an architect and it is assumed that the photos is a hobby ... but the architectural projects are slowly dying, so I have to keep my mind in the photograph. I love to travel to more countries to shoot and make fashion editorials. I also like to do another book with my street photography. I hope to learn more. Never stop learning.

Thanks to much to :iconhalimpeter: :rose:

grace | August 10, 2012

1) Your Full Name

My real name is Eva Gil, but my older daughter named me EVA DESU and I adopted it as "artistic" name

2) Tell us about you

I'm writer, journalist and student of Eastern Cultures. I'm author of a series of novels inspired in dynamics of mangas and animes. Im mom of 2 children who are my teachers in cosplay art and I practice photograph and bellydance. I live immersed in the art world.

3) Where are you located?

I live in Mexico City

4) What started you on the cosplay path?

I began to make cosplay to accompany to my daughter to conventions, but now I consider it an art that I practice with same seriousness as I make my professional work.

5) When not cosplaying, what do you do?

I write. Literature is an essential part of my life. I practice with photograph too.

6) What kind of cosplayer do you consider yourself?

I consider me a ritualistic and perfectionistic cosplayer. Definitely isn't a game for me, however, I love to improvise with characters, without betray the essence of the character.

7) Do you have a current cosplay favorite?

Yes! Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing. Was my first professional cosplay, and I return to her ever I can.

8) If you have a long range goals in your life. What is it?

Yes I want to be great in every thing I make: I want to be a great writer, a great dancer and a great cosplayer. My idea is to be better every day.

9) Do you have a cosplay story — happy story, horror story, uplifting, artistic story — you can share with our readers?

Well I have an story in particular, when I made by first time my Caterina Sforza' cosplay:

I was possing for photos front a church doors of Coyoacan while inside celebrated the Mass of 6 PM. Unexpectedly appeared an elegant gentleman (very similar to Colin Firth) followed by his young wife and two young children and when he see me, reacted as if he had appeared the Devil.

-This lack of respect! – shouted him. Her wife and sons jumped scared -How dare to portray this woman with these ….rags at the door of a temple? A woman making fun of the costumes cardinal, my God, this country is at war!

Cato Kusanagi, the photographer :iconcatokusanagi: continued taking photos; as if he had not heard anything, but I was really angry! The man continued to make reference to my "rags heretics", and suddenly, a tourist tell him: -What about the gentleman is that he is too upset that she would have preferred to see her dressed … in bikini.

10) Do you have any advice for someone who wants to get into the cosplay scene?

I advice to cosplayers that take it seriously. Yes, is very funny, but I think that a lot of people see this as a child game, something without importance, and cosplay is an ART.

11) There is a lot of debate if Western/Asians should cosplay. Your thoughts?

I am totally in love with Asian cosplay. Of course, there are wonderful cosplayers in every corner of the world, but Im seduced by the drama and elegance of Asian cosplayers.

12) Could you tell us a little about how you made the costume?

I would like a lot to be cosmaker too. In some cases, I have dressed to some cosplayers, but only when it comes to improvisation because I have an array of wigs, weapons, gloves, furry ears, etc.  I haven't knowledge of high couture, and when I require sumptuous costumes, I go with a wonderful designers who work for a TV channel, and they are my friends.

13) How far into the character are you willing to go while in cosplay? At the end of the day, are you "YOU" or are you your "CHARACTER"?

Is different in every case: some characters are installed in me even after removing the cospslay, as in the case of one Sir Integra… or recently Sebastian Michaelis. I have become much more friendly and contained since I did him … but in most cases, the character fades as I withdraw the suit.

14) Do you have any experience of taking a cosplay event in a foreign country?

No, unfortunately, but one of my biggest dreams is to participate in a convention in Japan or China, I REALLY love this countries, and I have reconstructed them through my imagination in my novels.

15) It is hard to exhibit the thoughtfulness and the spirit of a character, please tell me your secrets of success.

Well…I think that my secret to SEDUCE to people with my cosplays, is TO BE THE CHARACTER, not only a disguised person. I was a Theater Actress in University and I studied too much, but finally I decided to be the author of the works. However, these studies are helping me a lot for cosplays. I become totally in character, as Stanivslasky Technique.

16) Name 3 of your favorite (art/anime) books/ magazines.

My favourite mangas (even I could make a list too much large!)

1.- The serie of novels of TRINITY BLOOD

2.- HELLSING' Ovas and manga

3.- MONSTER (I prefer manga to anime)

17) What is your life motto?

As Nietzsche fan: "The maturity of man is having rediscovered the seriousness with which he played when he was a child".
